It’s Different When They’re Friends

T and Homer
T and Homer

Justin and I met Homer, the little Greek mutt of my cousin Nalini & her husband Drew, when he was nothing more than a puff of fur. Our dachshund Caesar, already in his dotage but still full of piss and vinegar, thought Homer would make a good snack but Homer was rescued and survived long into the future, long enough to be loved by Nalini & Drew’s two girls, long enough to break all our hearts when it was time to say goodbye.

Cousins and Homer

We’ve been making memorials for four months now but this is the first time we’ve made a stone for a dog we knew and loved; turns out it’s different. It made me remember that every order that comes in is for a friend someone loved like we loved Homer, for a cat or a dog or even a tortoise that was someone’s cherished companion. It’s an honor and a responsibility we take seriously.

And as for you, Homer, we hope you’re out there chasing something right now and barking up a storm. We miss you. xo
